Home?

Im sitting in my room in office at 1 Marine Boulevard, looking out of the window. Fireworks are going off; cars honk; people squeal with delight, because to most who are Singaporean or were born in Singapore, tomorrow is not just any other day. Its 9th of August, the nation's birthday.

While some lawyers and i were talking over dinner about national day and the several patriotic songs, we agreed that "Home" by Mavis was very emotive and many people liked it.

I couldn't help thinking if I truly considered Sinagpore my home. I thought of Saturday, where I was at the evening service, there was a special service on National Day where everyone prayed for the nation and sang the national anthem, believe it or not. There was a screen to the left and to the right displaying the Majulah Singapura lyrics. To my utmost horror, I couldn't remember most of the lyrics and I was one of the only few in the crowd who had their heads upturned to look at the lyrics. The other few were obviously not Singaporean. And for that moment, I just felt a sadness, that I didn't feel Singaporean.

Hey, don't worry that you can't remember the national anthem. Not a lot of people remember it especially after school. Even those in school might not. Being Singaporean is not about the national anthem. It's about whether you feel proud of Singapore and am proud being one? How do you feel about the country and its people. Do you feel part of it? I feel I am more Singaporean than a citizen of any other country though my home will always be where my family is. Sure you know who am I. =P Take care. Don't think too much. Love ya!
