Clare, Ben & I at Ben's housewarming

Ten things you do/learn during freshers week

1) oh god, so you are not a fresher anymore; which somewhat means that you are wiser, or else try to seem wiser and dish out advice when needed to freshers who unwittingly trust you, whose hope then crushes when they too realize you don’t know the answer. One fresher girl was really excited to see me as she was lost and asked where she could get her meningitis jab, and i evidently did not know the answer to that one.

2) Move in, which means the incessantly crazy trips to Asda and Argos to get the kettle and the rice, only because you have forgotten to get it the last time you made such a trip.

3) Collect receipts- Just because everything is to be shared among the 5 of us, minus the pickiness of a few of us, which really means tiresome math afterwards.

4) You see things you don’t want to. I shall not elaborate anymore. Let your imagination run wild; and your probably on the right track.

5) House parties, clubbing, shishas and salsa/ girlie night outs- Its as if some of us were deprived of such things the whole of the summer either working really hard, and for some pitiful individuals, studying for the resits- which means LETS BOOGIE.

6) Cooking. I love cooking. I feel so domestic these days, and am almost euphoric when clare tells me : *points at food* “ THIS IS GOOD SHIT!!”

7) You do stupid things, sometimes because your in a bit of a daze, like you’re a bit confused to why your back again. Which is which I totally forgot I had two pillows in my mate’s storage, and now have four pillows since I went to buy two; which is all cool though, it just means I don’t have to give up my pillows when people visit. and lost stuff already. Old habits die hard.

8) Making plans for the rest of the semester which does not involve work- of which include- a)the trip to Italy and Somerset House London for outdoor ice skating during winter , b) Scissorsisters/Little Britain/Russell Peters Live and c) Flat parties.

9) Clean my room. That was hard work. And put up pictures of important people on my wall.

10) But most importantly, one does learn something after a year at uni. And I realized that when I was at the same party, in the same hall bop, with the same person only months later on the dance floor. The art of recognising danger and getting out of situations.

And to end off in Lorraine’s words: “We are no more freshers, we are superior!!!”
